Gene Hamilton - US Army
Director
Gene Hamilton was born in Doylestown and grew up in New Britain Boro. In early 1964, he answered the call to serve and was drafted into the United States Army. His active duty was spent with the proud 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Manchu Regiment of the 171st Infantry Brigade Mechanized at Fort Wainwright in Alaska. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, along with a Letter of Commendation and a Letter of Appreciation recognizing his dedication and performance. He is a life member of the 9th Manchu Association and a member of American Legion Post 210 in Doylestown.
Gene joined the Guardians of the National Cemetery Honor Guard in July 2010 and quickly became a cornerstone of the growing organization. Later that same year, he stepped into the role of Training Officer, helping shape the skills, standards, and professionalism of the Honor Guard. On April 1 2015, he became Commander of the Honor Guard, a position he held with exceptional steadiness and integrity until April 30, 2024. He continues to stand in service alongside his brothers and sisters in arms, reporting proudly every Friday to support funeral honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, and also serves on the Guardians Board as Past Honor Guard President.
Gene believes deeply that every veteran has earned the right to full military honors at the end of their life. His commitment reflects more than duty; it is an unwavering belief that the nation must show families that their loved one’s service mattered, that their sacrifice is remembered, and that their legacy endures with dignity and respect.
