Mr. Dennis J. O'Malley passed away on Wednesday November 15, 2023 at his home in Monroe with his family by his side. He was eighty one years old.
Born to Joseph and Catherine O'Malley of Doylestown, PA in 1942, Denny attended local elementary schools, excelled at basketball at Lansdale Catholic High School and was a graduate of Villanova University. He received his Commission as an Ensign with additional orders sending him to Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, PA, where he served as a Communications and Cryptology Officer. He was Honorably Discharged as a LT(JG).
He began a Banking career that lasted over 40 years, working at several institutions in Central Jersey. Aside from his banking duties he was extremely active in community affairs and volunteered many hours to charitable organizations.
He semi-retired from United Jersey Bank as a Regional VP and moved to Florida.
Relocating back to Monroe Township, NJ to be closer to his family, his patriotism had him joining the American Legion Post 401 in South Brunswick where he served as Sgt-at-Arms, and co-founding the Rossmoor Veterans where he lived. His greatest labor of love was becoming a member of the Honor Guard Team at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. Each and every Thursday, regardless of weather, he traveled to PA to render Military Honors to deceased brothers and sisters. Over a 5 year span, he participated in more than 1500 services.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen, who he adored and with whom he shared nearly 59 years of marriage, two daughters who made him so very proud, Katie Madden (Dan) of Kendall Park, NJ, and Eileen O'Malley of Monmouth Junction, and two grandchildren, Kevin Madden of Kendall Park, and Dana Madden and her fianc Tyler Sanders of Washington DC, who made him so very happy.
He is further survived by his two brothers, Dr. Joseph O'Malley (Nora) of Lansdale, PA, Larry O'Malley (Margie), also of Lansdale, PA, his sister Eileen Parzanese (Don) of Warrington, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Denny would not want to be mourned. He would want to be remembered with a story, a smile, or a salute.
A Celebration of Life will take place between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home in Somerset, NJ on Sunday, November 19, 2023. A funeral service will begin at 4:30 PM to conclude.
