James Earl “Jim” Hartman, 74, of North Wales, passed away January 10, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was the beloved husband of Alisa M. (Voorhees) Hartman for 38 years.
Born December 24, 1949, in Bethesda, MD, he was a son of the late Harry and Cecilia Brown Hartman and brother of the late Donna DiFalco.
The Hartman family lived on military bases around the country until settling in Hatboro, PA, after his father retired from the Navy. There Jim attended St. John Bosco for elementary school. He then attended Archbishop Wood High School as a member of the inaugural freshman class that graduated in 1967. An avid drummer, Jim was a member of the band and remained active in alumni activities.
Jim proudly served with the United States Navy Construction Battalions, more commonly known as Seabees, from 1968 to 1974. He loved being a Seabee and carried the “Can Do” motto and attitude throughout his life.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, Jim worked in the automotive industry as an auto mechanic, service advisor, service manager, and director of fixed operations. Working his way through the ranks, he became an industry-wide innovator and leader. The majority of his career was with Fred Beans Ford in Doylestown, where he began as a service advisor and finished as a corporate service director responsible for strategic and tactical planning and implementation of business plans for 20 new dealerships. He ended his career as Director of Fixed operations at Chapman Automotive Group responsible for 10 dealerships.
Jim served the needs of his employees and always put their needs in front of his own. His people were the reason for his existence. As such he was well respected by his employees and business associates.
Upon his retirement in 2014, Jim volunteered and proudly served with The Guardians of the National Cemetery at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. He, along with his brothers and sisters, served on the Honor Guard rendering full military honors at veteran funerals.
Jim also served his community by acting as a coach, umpire, and groundskeeper for Upper Moreland Little League. He treasured his time at UMLL and viewed each young man who was a member of his teams as if they were one of his own. The relationships built with them and their families lasted throughout his life and it brought him great joy to see them succeed.
Jim was larger than life, with firm beliefs and the conviction to stand by them. He was generous and loved with his whole heart, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren, providing them with experiences and memories they will cherish forever. He valued his family and friends and enjoyed celebrating successes and milestones with them. He knew how to throw a party and keep it going! He worked as hard as he loved, setting the bar for all who knew him, and he created a life and left a legacy to be proud of.
Along with his wife, Alisa, Jim is survived by three children: Heather Anne Craft (Dale), Timothy Hartman (Beth Ann), and Peter Donnelly (Stacey); five grandchildren, Tonnie, Riley, Haley, Addison, and Kellan; four siblings, Kathleen Stowell (Gary), Harry "Skip" Hartman (Nicole), Daniel Hartman (Mary Jo), and Cecilia Langoski (Stan); a brother-in-law, Albert DiFalco; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a graveside service February 29, 2024 at 11:30 am at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Guests need to arrive no later than 11:15 am to gather and proceed to the area where the service will be held.
