Thomas M. Hauserman Jr. passed away on July 1, 2024, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving wife and sons. Born on January 13, 1945, he dedicated his life to service, both in the military and within his community.
Tom was a proud VFW Life Member since 2006 and an active participant in the Veterans of Foreign Wars community. He served as the District 8 Commander during the 2019-20 term and was a dedicated member of the Yardley-Lower Makefield Post 6393, where he earned the distinguished title of All-State Commander. For the past eight years, Tom chaired Post 6393's Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Essay contests, nurturing the patriotic spirit in young Americans.
A guardian of the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Tom served as a Firing Party Leader for the Honor Guard and acted as the District 8/Guardian liaison. His commitment extended to the American Legion Post 440 in Newtown.
Tom's military service began in 1965 when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He achieved the rank of Second-Class Petty Officer (E-5) and served aboard the USS Vega (AF-59) during deployments to Vietnam and Korea. Throughout his service, he was awarded the Navy Battle Efficiency Ribbon, National Defense, Armed Forces Expeditionary, Vietnam Service with two Bronze Campaign Stars, Korean Defense, and Vietnam Campaign Medals.
After retiring from a successful 43-year career as a sales executive with E.F. Hauserman Company and Steelcase, working in North America and the United Kingdom, Tom continued to serve his community. He was a graduate of West Chester State University, class of 1973, and Lower Merion High School, class of 1963.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife Karen, a Post 6393 Auxiliary Member, their sons Thomas III, David Hauserman and his wife Kelly, Luke Hauserman and his wife Tina, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings: Claire Silecchia and her husband Charlie, Virginia Sten, Marguerite Moran, Janet Ward and her husband William, Regina, Mary Lucy, Loretta Cole and her husband Damien, Joseph and his wife Crystal, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Tom and Karen were married for 57 years. In his later years, Tom bravely battled the effects of Agent Orange, a testament to his enduring strength and courage.
Tom's legacy of service, dedication, and leadership will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His contributions to his country and community are remembered with great respect and admiration.
A memorial service will be held on July 23rd at 11am at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery (830 Highland Rd, Newtown, PA 18940). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Guardians of the National Cemetery (https://guardiansofthenationalcemetery.org/donations/donate/).
